Walking the Tides- Seasonal Magical Rhythms and Lore

£18.00

Walking the Tides is a book that looks at the Seasonal rhythms of the year- the plants, animals and stars, combined with traditional festivals. This is traditional craft’s answer to the neo-pagan wheel of the year.

This tome looks at all major festivals present in the UK that people would have actually worked with- this includes festivals with pagan roots, and some of the newer Christian festivals such as Saint’s Days, Holy Days and other celebrations. It looks at the natural flow of different spirits and energy that change throughout the year, and hopes to give the reader some insight in how to recognise and tap into these natural, magical phenomena and work with a direct experience with the land.

This book is drawn from natural phenomena, Traditional craft practice, but also from Old British Folklore, the lore of the farm, the author own experience and contact with the land as well as church tradition. This gives you access to the world of the traditional witch of the past, and the seasonal world they lived in.

This book is divided into quarters, and then again into months, allowing for quick reference to the time period of your choosing. This book is complemented with illustrations and photographs from the author.

Why we love it

We’ve always craved a book that looks at the seasonal lore behind much of traditional witchcraft. Often a book that focuses on any sort of ‘wheel of the year’ will be solely looking at the 1900s wiccan wheel of the year, which although is formed from some traditional festivals, is overlaid by Wiccan deity and understanding. This book however, truly looks to history and experience- even daring to look at the Christian festivals, which can be a hot potato of a topic to talk about in a mostly pagan-witchcraft world.. It’s authenticity shines through with a working, usable model. It allows the reader to understand what ancestors past may have experienced at different times of the year, and allows them to bring that energy forward and explore it within their own practice.
