Pagan Portals – Raven Goddess follows on from the Morgan Daimler’s earlier book, The Morrigan, to help the reader continue to get to know the Irish Goddess of war, battle, and prophecy with a particular focus on disentangling truth from common misconceptions. Clear out the modern misinformation and untangle Nemain and Morgan Le Fay from the legends of the Morrigan. Refocus on the legends of the Ulster Cycle and her role within it. Morgan Daimler knows Old, Middle and Modern Irish and uses this to their advantage- retranslating older texts and finding whole passages that other translators chose to leave out.
As the Morrigan has grown in popularity, understandings of who she was and is have shifted and become even more nebulous. Raven Goddess is intended to clarify some common points of confusion and help people go deeper in their study of the Morrigan and assist in nurturing a devotional relationship to her.
A great book for those seeking answers and deeper knowledge on the Morrigan.
Why we love it
It’s refreshing to have a solid, well researched book to turn to that delves into this Goddess, rather than neo-pagan fictional pseudo-history- or worse, Wikipedia entries based off of video games. We consider study of the Gods to be a devotional act, and with this line-by-line analysis of some of her legends- nothing could be a more valuable use of time within a devotional space. Daimler continually writes excellent books full of impeccable scholarship that we love to have on our bookshelves.
