Rackham Tarot

£22.00

The Rackham tarot is perfect for those with an interest in the otherwordly. Rackham’s paintings have been used in Rip Van Winkle, Peter Pan, Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Fairytales of the Brothers Grimm, and now they appear to us for use in this sublime tarot deck.

Only a few of the images lean on the Post-Victorian view on fairies (Fairies with wings, Tiny fairies etc) and the rest are sumptuous in their portrayal of the otherworld as well as the natural world. The Paintings are evocative and emotive, making this deck wonderful for reading, as well as deeply meditative. Earthy colours and deep blues permeate this deck- and some of the paintings have also been tastefully edited to make them fit within the tarot structure. However, if you’re a fairy tale buff, you might wish to use the stories behind the cards as a way to divine using this deck. The Rackham Tarot is, as many art decks are, perhaps more suited to cartomantic readings.

None of the cards are named, and instead work on a simple numbering and symbol system. While this might seem off-putting to beginners, the Rackham Tarot deck does also come with a little instruction book to help out!

To see why we personally love the deck, find the description box below!

Why we love it

The art is the major reason we love the Rackham Tarot deck. Because the art itself is taken from stories, it creates a deck with rich layers of purpose and history. Rackham isn’t afraid to look to the bizarre and sometimes visually disturbing aspects of the fair folk and their world.  But it also grounds some of these fantastical scenes right back into our world- a useful comparison when reading with these.

The only disappointment for us here is the Sun card, which seems to focus more on the passing of time more than the solar aspects of the card. Not perhaps the painting we would choose, but one that doesn’t detract from the deck as a whole.

The imagery is gorgeous and entices the reader to weave their own stories based on the imagery. The Rackham Tarot is a beautiful and inspiring deck.
