The Devil’s Dozen

£14.80

The Devil’s Dozen: Thirteen Rites of the Old One is a must have book that we recommend to anybody walking the ways of the traditional witch, or anybody who wishes to dance with the devil.

This fine book explores the concept of the devil as it is approached by Traditional Witches- that mix of christo-paganism that resulted in the ‘Witch’s Devil’. The folkloric devil is called by many names- King of the Fair Folk, Lucifer, Old Nick, The Man in Black and many others. This book is filled with rituals and rites in order to connect with and work with this powerful being.

Traditional witchcraft works with the hidden world of spirits and powers innate within the natural world. For witches to truly traverse and access the hidden realms and the natural world, they had to first connect with The Old One– who in folk tradition was called the Devil. He was the great spirit betwixt- the guide between the hidden and the revealed. It is through union with the Old One that witches could access the powers of the spiritual and natural world and could awaken the hallowed Witch Fire within.

Within Folk belief, the Devil existed as the embodiment of the chaotic forces of nature, an origin different of the ‘Satan’ of the Church. He was the keeper and revealer of divine light, the guide of souls and the guardian of the mysteries of death.

This Old Spirit of the Wild has lingered thoughout history to the present, touching fairy lore, seasonal folk customs, regional traditions and demonology. The Church, in it’s demonisation of the spirits, managed to preserve the Old One, adding more myths to his birthright and giving people clear access to magic and power.

There are varied historical records of how witches achieve initiatory contact, where the witch entered into a working relationship with the Old One. Whereupon this contact they would learn the various mysteries- curing ailments, exorcising ill influence, attaining desires and destroying the oppressive. Charms of needles and candles, of circles of art, and ribbons and knots.

It’s from these records and the Author’s own experience of the Old Craft that this book was created- a modern ‘Black Book’ of devotional, sorcerous and Craft rites to work with the Old One. There are rituals within this book for both the lone practitioner, and for groups. These thirteen rites include vision, sacred compact, dedication, initiation, consecration, empowerment, protection, illumination, union, transformation and devotion

‘They are my own creations all; given in hope that they may provide usefulness or inspiration, and each a personal offering of devotion unto the starlit and smoking altar of the Old One’

Why we love it

This is without a doubt one of the most gripping and useful foundational book for witches looking to dance with the devil and learn more about traditional witchcraft. For many practitioners, this is also an excellent book for those wishing to dive in deeper to this side of the craft. Some of the rituals near the back are deep and sumptuous and are able to be used many times over for new experiences with the Old One and his court.

These rituals clearly come from a place of historical research, inherited folklore, and deep personal gnosis.

This is a perfect ritual book for theistic luciferians, devil worshippers and traditional witches. It may also be a useful reference for theistic satanists too.  Aside from the solid ritual information and devotional writings, this book also features fantastic photography and stunning illustrations!

This is one of our personal favourite books, and one we wouldn’t want to be without.
