Why we love it
This book is an excellent introduction to the history of the scientific, upper class exploration of the herbal world though the lens of the Chelsea Physic Garden. The original root of the apothecaries and pharmacies. It gives a great look into how the Chelsea Garden traded plants from overseas in order to create oils and serums for popular consumption. It’s a connection to a global network that many may not realise before picking up the book! It’s a fantastic way to see how some of our modern medications came from within the garden. A great book if you’re interested in the history of herbal medicine- the herbs, the gardens, the classification systems, the politics and trade.
