Scottish Witches and Witch-hunters by Julian Goodare

We retail this book at least 40% off because we believe that knowledge should be made accessible for everyone.

Scottish Witches and Witch-hunters explores several areas of witchcraft in Scotland and it’s vilification and condemnation. It takes a look at 12 different areas of Scottish Witchcraft, from the real witches to those condemned who may have just been quarrelling with the neighbours. This book delves into folk belief, Scottish witchcraft, as well as the other side of the coin- the witch hunting itself.

A great book to pick up if you’re interested in the witchcraft of Britain.

“This is a book that is fresh and thought-provoking, and its authors are to be congratulated on their varied, precise, and well-researched contributions. … Scottish Witches and Witch-Hunters is a fantastically useful resource, and can only further stimulate work in the area. Julian Goodare and his team of contributors have given us a wide-ranging, provocative, and deeply scholarly volume, in which all the chapters are valuable, and the whole really is more than the sum of the parts.” (Marion Gibson, Folklore, Vol. 126 (3), 2015)

Why we love it

We love this book for many reasons- of course, we’re a big fan of a historically accurate book, but this book also takes into account the many international influences on Scottish Witchcraft. This isn’t often seen, and we’re glad it make it into this book. It give special mention to the familiar spirit, as well as charming as a form of magic. As per usual, it’s very well written and really makes the history juicy. It gives fresh new life to the stories of these people who were hunted as witches. It’s on our personal bookshelf!
